1. An octopus told me that his underwater cave \( 245_{8}\) is years old. How many years is this in base ten?

2. What is the digit in the thousandths place of the decimal equivalent of \(3/16\)?

3.  Express \(\frac{0.\overline{12}}{0.\overline{321}}\) as a common fraction.

Algorithm

(1)  drop the decimal

(2)  In the numerator :  Subtract  the  non-repeating part from the  repeating part

(3) In the denominator : Write the same  number of 9's  as  the digits in the  repeatnig part  and the  same  number of 0's  as  the non-repeating part

.12  (repeating )     =  (12  - 0)  / 99  =      12  / 99  =   4/33

.132 ( repeating)   = (321 - 0 )  / 99  =     321 / 99     107/33

4 / 33

______  =                 4   / 107

107 33
