To solve this, we can use what's called unit multipliers.

Unit multipliers looks like this:

43 inches/1 * 1 ft/12 inches

The first fraction is just the measurement we know (43 inches) over 1.

The second fraction is our conversion rate, so 1ft/12 inches is saying 1 ft = 12 inches.

This is pretty cool, because inches will now cancel, giving us our answer in ft!

43 inches/1*1 ft/12 inches

43 inches/1*1 ft/12 inches

43/1 * 1 ft/12

Now let's just multiply it out like we usually do with two fractions

43 ft/12

which is the same as

3 and 7/12 ft

or
