A person on a moving sidewalk travels 72 feet in 9 seconds. The moving sidewalk has a length of 160 feet. How long will it take to move from one end to the other?
We can solve this with a proportion :
Let x be the total time [in seconds ]
9/ 72 = x / 160 cross multiply
160 * 9 = 72 *x divide both sides by 9
160 = 8 *x divide both sides by 8
20 = x = 20 seconds
What is a "moving sidewalk"? If there is such a thing, don't you have to know its speed, and whether its moving with the person or in the opposite direction?
That is a good question, for these questions you have to assume they are both moving the same way.
Moving sidewalks are in places like airports but may substitute trains and buses soon
