To solve linear equations, get all the variables to one side and all the numbers to the other.

Since the right side of the equation has only a variable, get all the variables to the right side.

Remove the 6x from the left side by subtracting 6x from both sides:

--->   6x - 10  =  x

--->   6x - 6x - 10  =  x - 6x

--->   -10  =  -5x

Finish by dividing both sides by -5:

--->   -10 / -5  =  -5x / -5

--->   2  =  x
