7:00 - 4:45 = 2:15

 

assuming you're referring to time. 

 

 

Here's how I'd do it:

 

 

When the question is in this form:     X:00  -  Y:Z

 

1. Subtract Y + 1 from X, i.e:    X - (Y + 1)      This will be your hours

2. Then add 60 - Z       This will be you minutes
