1/2 of remaining pole is blue
1/4 of remaining pole is green
2/3 of remaining pole is red
9 inches are unpainted

How tall in inches is the pole?

Here is what I did
1/3 yellow
1/2 of 2/3= 1/3 is blue
1/4 of 1/3= 1/12 is green

Lets say the pole is 100 units long.

That would mean that 33+1/3 units are yellow, leaving 66+2/3 units.
Half of these would be blue, therefore there are 33+1/3 blue units, leaving 33+1/3 units.
A quarter of this is green, and (33+1/3)/4 is 8+1/3, so 8+1/3 units are green, leaving 25 units.
2/3 of this is red, and (2/3)*25 is 16+2/3, so 16+2/3 units are red, leaving 8+1/3 units.

Therefore 8+1/3 units=9 inches.
Divide 8+1/3 by 9 to get 1 inch=25/27 units.

The the pole is 100 units long, so to get inches, we multiply it by 25/27 to get...

92+16/27 inches long
