.5 is half of 1 right?

So if you have 2 .5's that makes 1.

.5 is 1 out 2 parts to make 1

1/2 is what it turns out to be.

If you want it as a mixed number it would be 3 1/2

If you want it just as a fraction, it would be 7/2.

3.5 is 3/10 as a fraction becuase of the decimal. Imagine the decimal as 1 always and the numbers behind it as 0s. This decimal equals 3/10ths.

well, 3.5 is 3 wholes, (the 3), and one half, (the .5), so 3 1/2, or 7/2.
