a scientist measures the diameter of two very thin wires to be used in an electrical experiment. the diameter of the first wire is 1.24*10^-3 mm. the diameter of the second wire is 9.1*10^-4 mm. how much wider is the first wire than the second one?

1.24 x 10^-3   =   .00124

And

9.1 x 10^-4  =  .00091

So, we just subtract like we normally would....

   .00124

-  .00091

  ----------

   .00033mm

And that's it !!!
