A triangle has an area of 72 square inches. If the base of the triangle has a length of 18 inches, what is the height of the triangle? Use the formula for the area of a triangle: Area = (base)(height)

Well, actually, the "formula" is:

A = (b*h) / 2      .....so we have.....

72 = (18 * h) / 2      multiply both sides by 2

144 = 18 * h            divide both sides by 18

144/18 = h = 72/9 = 8 inches
