After an 6% increase in your wages, you receive $.57 more per hour. About how much did you receive per hour before the increase in your wages?

Thanks Civonamuk ,

Here is another way to tackle this question. :)

6% is   57c

1% is   57/6 cents

100% is    57/6*100cents

$${\frac{{\mathtt{57}}}{{\mathtt{6}}}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{100}} = {\mathtt{950}}$$   cents

original pay was   $9.50 per hour
