Here is another way to tackle this question. :)

 

6% is   57c

1% is   57/6 cents

100% is    57/6*100cents

 

$${\frac{{\mathtt{57}}}{{\mathtt{6}}}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{100}} = {\mathtt{950}}$$   cents

 

original pay was   $9.50 per hour
