Melinda and her father are building a rectangular horse pen that will have $12$ posts along two sides and $20$ posts along the other two sides, as shown. The posts will be $12$ meters apart with three wires: one wire near the top, one in the middle and one near the bottom. Besides the wire between the posts, an additional half meter of wire is needed to wrap around each post on each level. How many meters of wire will be required to make the pen?

So for the 2 sides with 12 posts - we have 12-1 = 11 in betweens, and for 20 posts, 20-1 = 19.

The total "in-betweens" is 2*(19+11 ) = 2* 30 = 60

So 3 levels, so 60 * 3 * 12 meters = 180 * 12 = 2160

There are 20 + 20 + (12-2) + (12-2) = 20 +20 + 10 + 10 = 60 posts.

60* 0.5 = 30

2160 + 30 = 2190

There are 20 + 20 + (12-2) + (12-2) = 20 +20 + 10 + 10 = 60 posts.

60* 0.5 = 30

2160 + 30 = 2190
