f (2)  on the x axis,  go to x  = 2........move down until you intersect the graph........read the y value at this point  = -3

So  f (2)  = -3

Similarly

f (-4)  on the x axis,  go to x  =- 4........move up until you intersect the graph........read the y value at this point  = 4

So  f (-4)  = 4

f(x)  = -1  ....what we are really asking is, "What is the x value on the graph when y    = -1  ?? "

Go down on the y axis until y  = - 1........notice that the graph intersects this point.....so....the x value at this point   = 0

So  at  f(x)  = -1,   x =  0

cool cool cool
