The area of a trapezoid is given by the formula

where
b1, b2 are the lengths of each base
h is the altitude (height)

 

b1 = Y

b2 = Y + 4

h = Y

$$area = \left(\dfrac {Y + Y +4}{2} \right)* Y\\\\\\
=\left( \dfrac {2Y +4}{2} \right) * Y\\\\
=\left( \dfrac {2Y}{2}+ \dfrac {4}{2} \right) * Y\\\\
=\left( Y +2 \right) * Y\\\\$$
