At 8:00 A.M., a train leaves a station and travels at a rate of 48 mph. At 9:00 A.M., a second train leaves the same station on the same track and travels in the direction of the first train at a speed of 65 mph. At 10:00 A.M., how far apart are the two trains?

The second train goes thirty-one miles behind the first train.

First train travels at 48 mph   from 8  to 10 am = 2 hours * 48 m/r = 96 miles

   second train travels for 1 hour at 65 m/hr = 65 miles

 96 - 65 = 31 miles apart at 10 AM
