There are two numbers which add up to 17. If one number is 13 more than the other, find the two numbers. 

 

Let X stand for the smaller of the two numbers.  

 

X + (X + 13) = 17   

 

2X + 13 = 17  

 

2X = 17 – 13   

 

X = 2  and of course the other number is 15  

.
