sum of equation of the form ax^2+bx+c is -b/a (product is c/a)

sum of this equation is 3

The denominator cannot be 0

 

\(y^2-3y-2 \ne 0\\ y\ne\frac{3\pm\sqrt{9+8}}{2}\\ \)

 

So as JP said, the sum of these is 3
