The measure of one angle is thirteen less than five times the measure of another angle. The sum of the measures of the two angles is 140°. What are the two angles?
we can set up two equations here:
x = 5y - 13
x + y = 140
now, we can use substitution:
5y - 13 + y = 140
6y - 13 = 140
6y = 173
y = 173/6
x = 667/6
hope this helped! please correct me if i am wrong:)
13 + 140 = 153 NOT 163 or 173
whoops, thank you for catching that :O
my bad, y should be 153/6, sorry about that !!
(...and i hope you can solve for x on your own:))
