A train is 1/4 miles long and travels at a constant speed of 8 miles per hour. A boy on a bicycle, traveling at a constant speed of 11 miles per house, rides on a road next to the track. From the moment he passes the rear of the train, it takes him m minutes to reach the front. Find m

I've never really got how to do these types of problems so it would be appreciated if someone could kinda help guide me through this

thanks!

boy is going 11mph train is 8mph so boy is 3mph faster and so the time for a 3mph object to move 1 mile is 20m and so to move 1/4 a mile is 20/4 which is 5m

Difference in speed is   11- 8 = 3 m/hr

to cover 1/4 mile    :      1/4 m / 3 m/hr = 1/12 hr = 5 mins.
