Let  t  represent the number of hours that Brad drove.

Since Athena started 2 hours earlier, she drove  t + 2 hours.

Distance  =  rate x time

Brad's distance:  60t

Athena's distance:  30(t + 2)

Assuming that they started in the same place, when Brad catches Athena, they both will have driven the same distance:

     60t  =  30(t + 2)

     60t  =  30t + 60

     30t  =  60

         t  =  2 hours (after Brad started, so 1:00 pm)
