Bob,Clement,Dominic went to buy a gift. They shared the cost equally among themselves. However,Dominic did not bring any money. So,his friends paid for the gift first. The ratio of the amount Bob paid to the amount Clement paid was 4:5.The next day,Dominic returned $18.90 to Clement and some money to Bob.What is the cost of gift
Rom, I think that you have made an error.
Dominic paid $18.90 plus some more.
They each have to pay 1/3 each. It is easier to think of this as 3/9 each.
But Bob pays 4/9 and Clement pays 5/9
bob pays 3/9 for himself and 1/9 for Dominic. Clement pays 3/9 for himself and 2/9 for Dominic.
This means that Dominic owes Bob 1/9 of the total and Clement 2/9 of the total
Dominic repays $18.90 to Clement. This represents 2/9 of the total.
So 1/9 of the total must be 18.90/2 = $9.45
So the whole cost must have been $9.45*9=$85.05
Clement paid $18.90 which was 1/3 of the cost of the gift.
The gift costs 3x$18.90=$56.70
Rom , could u just tell me that how did u know that Clement paid 1/3 of the cost of gift!and what use of the ratio 4:5 did u make ! i cant makeout how did u solve this question !
