Hi my good friends,

I have a sum here, which is quite simple, however the calculator gives the answer as 1, while I know it has to be 16

\(8/2(2+2)\)

Surely this is the same as 8/2*(2+2)

which gives 8/2*4

From left to right its 8/2=4

then 4*4=16.

Am I wrong here?

Oh, Melody, I lOVE mathematics!!laugh. Anyone please with some help here will be greatly appreciated. Thank yhou kindly.

As written we have

8 / 2 * ( 2 +2)  =

4  *  4  =

16

This  = 1  is if we have

8/ [ 2 ( 2 + 2) ] =

8 / [ 2 * 4 ] =

8 / 8   =  1

{Thus emphsizing the importance  of brackets and parentheses  !!!   }
