why is it that when I put in (x-5)(x-1)=(x+4)x it gives me a different answer than when I put in x(x+4)=(x-5)(x-1)

yes it is glitch because it is not writing the multiply symbol if you will write multiply symbol before x it will give you the same answer:

The calculaor is not including the first x in the quation for "x(x+4)=(x-5)(x-1)". Therefore your answer will be much different as you leave out a whole variable.
