sassoon chose to begin the poem by talking about soldiers. Then he began to describe the soldiers thoughts and how they long to get to do the things they love again. The train could symbolize a citizen becoming a soldier that is on route to the office which could mean military recruitment office. He started the poem with a soldiers thoughts and ended it with a citizens journey to becoming a soldier.
