Chase is building a box for the shelves in his father's garage. In order to fit the shelves as neatly as possible, the box needs to be 1 inch taller and 5 inches longer than it is wide.

a) Let w = width of the box. Write an expression for each remaining dimensions in terms of w.

b) If the volume of the box is 2112 cubic feet (V=2112 cu ft) , write an equation to find the dimensions of the box.

a)  height  = w + 1     length = w + 5

b) V   =  width * height * length.....so we have

2112 =  w * (w + 1) * (w + 5)
