I tried to do these but I keep getting stuck. I have no clue what to do. I know I'm trying to solve these wrong because somehow I got a negative answer for the 2nd one. Please help and show how to solve these. I don't understand. Sorry. Thank you in advance.

C.  Total area of wheel = pi * r^2     (be aware...you are given DIAMETER 24"    r = 12" )

         Fraction of total area represented by ABC  is 40/360

               so area is   pi * 122  * 40/360 = ~ 50 in2

A   Perimeter of ENTIRE circle (360o )    from point A to point B is only 45 degrees...or  a fraction of 360  :  45/360

 

      formula for ENTIRE perimeter of a circle is pi * diameter

          so distance is   45/360  *  (pi * diameter)    = 45/360 (pi) ( 1200) =~ 471 ft

B.   First, ya have to find the value of 'x'

       there are 360o in a circle

          in this circle, there is 90o + 45o + 3x + 2x = 360o        So x = 45o    and 2x = 90 degrees

            90 degrees is a fraction of 360o      90/360

              Total area of circle = pi * r2 

                  so the shaded area is   90/360 * pi * (82) =~ 50.26 in2
