I dont understand how to do this problem. It's from my textbook. Any help on how to do it?
Problem/Equation:
Commission: 10 percent on the first $5,000; 15 percent over $5,000.
Find the total graduated commission on $22,000.
You get 10% of the first $5,000.00 ---> 0.10 x 5000 = $500.00
Since the total sold is $22,000.00, there is still $17,000.00 remaining, for which commisssion is paid at the rate of 15% ---> 0.15 x 17000 = $2550.00
Total commission: $500.00 + $2550.00 = <--- the answer.
