Complete the square x^2 + 12x + 9

 

Enter your answer in the form a(x + u)^2 + v, where a, u, and v are replaced by numbers.

Take 1/2 of the 'x' coeeficient     = 6       then

  (x+6)^2    will be the start   now expand it to:

   x^2 + 12 x + 36  <======   Note that this added 36 to the equation...so we need to subtract 36

 

(x+6)^2   -  36  + 9

(x+6)^2  - 27
