+1224 Let's think about composite numbers instead. Composite numbers can be written as the product of smaller prime numbers. For example, 6 = 2 * 3.
Composite polynomials are kind of the same. They can be written as the product of smaller, indivisible factors.
For example, x^4 - 16 = (x^2 + 4)(x + 2)(x - 2).
You can't divide these factors any further, so x^4 - 16 is composite.
