On a Cartesian coordinate plane, points (1,2) and (-7, 4) are opposite vertices of a square. What is the area of the square?
Use distance formula to find distance between the two points....this is the diagonal of the square
s^2 + s^2 = diagonal ^2 s= side length
2 s^2 = diagonal ^2
s^2 = diagonal^2 / 2 = area beause (Area = side x side = s^2)
That was easy.
Can you find the coordinates of the 2 remaining vertices?
