Hi, I've been trying to solve this problem:

 

Let $x$ and $y$ be integers. Show that $9x + 5y$ is divisible by $19$ if and only if $x + 9y$ is divisible by $19.$

 

I tried to do several things but a they all didn't work, could someone help me? Thank you!

Thank you so much! I looked at the original post but it was a tinypic photo so it didn't help me at all. Now time to go and finally understand this problem... Thanks again!
