6(7 - 2p) = 3(5p + 1)           Use the distributive property (multiply out):

                                           3(5p + 1) = 3·5p + 3·1 = 15p + 3

42 - 12p = 15p + 3               Get all the variable to one side; remove -12p + adding 12p to  both sides.

42 - 12p + 12p = 15p + 12p + 3       Now, simplify.

42 = 27p + 3                       Get all the numbers to the side opposite the variable; subtract 3 from both sides.

42 - 3 = 27p + 3 - 3             Simplify.

39 = 27p                              Divide both sides by 27

p = 39/27
