Discrete Functions vs. Continuous Functions

What is the difference between a discrete function and a contiunuos function...i forgot. 
and also would a discrete function just have a solid line whereas a continuous would just be the points graphed without any line or anything? 

If somebody can clarify this for me I would really appreciate it! :)
