A jet left the airport flying north five hours before a passenger plane. The passenger plane flew in the opposite direction going 260 km/h faster than the jet for htree hoiurs after which time the planes were 2650 km apart. What was the jet's speed?

jet speed = x

passenger plane speed = 260 + x

 

Jet had 5 hr headstart distance = 5x     + 3 more hours = 8x

then the passenger jet took off and flew 3 hours = 3 (260+x)

 

total distance = 2650 km

 

8x +3 ( 260+x)  = 2650      solve for 'x'
