a high speed train between shin-obuku and tokyo averages 284.5 km/hr. If the trip takes 0.8 hours, how far apart are the cities? What would the trains speed be in m/s?

We can use the distance, rate, and time formulas.

We know that

r = d/t

Hence,

d = r * t

We have both the rate, and the time.

284.5 * 0.8 = 227.6

Therefore, the cities are 227.6 km apart.

For the sake of your learning, here is a YouTube video from which you can learn to convert km/h --> m/s

284.5  x   0.8 hours ==227.60 km - distance between Tokyo and Shin-Obuku

[284.5 km  x  1000 m/km] / [60 minutes x 60 seconds] ==284,500 / 3,600 ==79.0278 m/s
