3x + 5 = 4x

 

3x + 4x

 

7x = 5

 

I am doing this right?

 

Is 7x = 5 the answer?

No. You have to balance it out.

 

3x+8=4x+3

subtract 3 on both sides

3x+8-3=4x+3-3

that gives

3x+5=4x

Then, this is the part where you messed up

We have to subtract 3x on both sides, not add 3x

that gives

3x+5-3x=4x-3x

Which we get

5=x

Usually, the varible is on the left side and the constant is on the right, so the answer would be

x=5

but 5=x is fine too
