Notice that

cos-1  (- √2/2)  asks  the  question.....where does  the cosine = -√2/2  ???

This is at    3pi/4

So    sin  (cos-1(-√2/2))    = sin  (3pi/4)     =    √2/2

And  notice that   sin (pi/2)  = 1

So  tan-1  (1)   asks the question......where  does  the tan  =  1 ???

This is   at   pi/4

So....puuting  this altogether  we  have

√2/2  +  pi/4  =

2√2  +  pi

________

      4
