The increase was exponential. After 5 hours they numbered 120, and after 10 hours there were 400 of them. How many were there after 30 hours?

Between 5 and 10 hours, they grew by a factor of:

400/120=3 1/3 times in 5 hours. Therefore the hourly growth rate was:

[3 1/3]^1/5=1.27225......etc. Or by 27.225% per hour. Therefore, the growth between 10 and 30 hours, or in the next 20 hours will be:

1.27225^20 x 400=49,383 rounded.
