Frank is going to cover the wall (1.8m by 6m) with rectangular tiles (each 60cm by 30cm). 3/5 of the tiles will be white. Some tiles will be green, the rest will be blue. The ratio of the number of green tiles to the number of blue tiles will be 1:3. Assuming there are no gaps between the tiles, how many tiles of each colour will Frank need?

1.8m = 180 cm = 3 tile tall (?)       60 cm tile

6m = 600 cm = 20 tile wide(?)      30 cm tile

20 x 3 = 60 tiles total

60 x 3/5 = white = 36 white tiles

reaminder  24 tiles in ratio of 1:3       so 1/4 will be green = 6 green and  3/4 will be blue = 18 Blue tiles

1.8m  = 180 cm  and    6m  = 600 cm.......so.......the wall area = 180 * 600  = 108,000cm^2

Area of each tile  = 60cm * 30 cm  =   1800 cm^2

Number of tiles to be used  =  108,000 / 1800  =   60

2/5 of the tiles will be grreen and blue  .....and  (1/4)(2/5) =  2/20  = 1/10  will be green ....so  3/10 will be blue

So the number white = (3/5) * 60  =  36

The number green  =  (1/10) * 60  =  6

The number blue =  (3/10) * 60  =   18

Just as EP said....
