f(x)=(4x-1)/3 for x=-3 Evaluate the function for the given value of x, and write as an ordered pair. This question is sooo confusing, pls explain :( got me tripping
f(x) = ( 4x - 1 ) / 3
First let's evaluate the function for x = -3 . To do that, replace every instance of " x " with " -3 " .
f( -3 ) = (4(-3) - 1) / 3
Multiply 4(-3) to get -12 .
f( -3 ) = ( -12 - 1 ) / 3
Combine -12 and -1 to get -13 .
f( -3 ) = ( -13 ) / 3
Now we don't need to keep the parenthesees.
f( -3 ) = - 13/3
So...the value of the function when x = -3 is -13/3 .
And....ordered pairs are written like this: ( x , f(x) )
So......the ordered pair for this solution is: ( -3, -13/3 )
