The Pythagorean Theorem is  c²  = a² + b²

where  c  is the hypotenuse and  a  and  b  are the other two sides.

For this problem,  c = √74  and  a = 5:    ( √74 )²  =  ( 5 )² +  b²

     --->  74  =  25 + b²

     --->  49  =  b²

     --->  b  =  √49

     --->  b  =  7

[The sides  a  and  b  are interchangeable.]
