1. A map that contains cities A and B is shown. The map uses a scale of 1 inch:20 miles. If you are making a map that uses a scale of 3 inches:35 miles, how far apart are cities A and B on your map?

2. A game show has a contestant pick one of five doors to reveal the prize the contestant wins. A photo of a new car is behind one of the doors and gag prizes are behind the others. Which statement best describes the probability of winning the new car?

The cities are 140miles apart..so......

3 / 35  = x / 140       cross-multiply

140 * 3   = 35 * x

420  = 35x  divide both sides by 35

x = 12     the cities should be 12 inches apart on the re-scaled map

P(car)    =   1/5   = 20%
