Because the circle has a radius of 1, we know the rectangle's dimensions are \(4 \times 2 \)

 

Note that the perimeter of the shaded region is the perimeter of the rectangle plus the perimeter of the 2 circles. 

 

The circumference/perimeter of the circle can be found using the formula \(2 \pi r\)
