Semicircles of diameter 2 inches are lined up as shown. What is the area, in square inches, of the shaded region in a 1-foot length of this pattern? Express your answer in terms of pi.

am i just dumb or isn't this just simply 11 semicircles with area pi/2 so it would be 11pi/2 but apparently that's wrong so I don't get it

Each individual circle is pi, so each semicircle is pi/2.  Therre are 9 semicircles, so the area is 9*pi/2.

If the diameter of each is 2" and the total length is 1' then    12/2=6

There will be 6 semicircles on the top and 6 semicircles on the bottom which makes 6 circles

A= pi* 1^2  =  pi
