What is the smallest distance between the origin and a point on the graph of y = 1/2*(x^2 - 8).
webcalc is not letting me upload images, so i will just give an answer without a graph :(
after graphing you find that the closest distance to the origin and a point on the graph is 1/16
the shortest distance is always a straight line.
thus when x=0 it will be a straight line to your graph
when x=0, y= -1/16 or y=1/16
because its a parabola its symetric
but distance is always positive so 1/16
