Let \(\Delta ABC\) be an equilateral triangle. How many squares in the same plane as \(\Delta ABC\) share two vertices with the triangle?
(Post a solution not an answer.)
Case 1: A side of the square as a side of the triangle
There are 6 cases for this: One square can be on the outside of the triangle, and one that contains the triangle.
Case 2: A diagonal of the square as a side of the triangle
There are 3 cases for this, because there are three sides.
In all: 6 + 3 = 9 sides
