I don't know if this is exactly what the teacher wants, because this explanation is a little more complicated than it really needs to be, but it is the only explanation that shows how the distributive property is involved...

5 + 8v + 6v + 6

 

Go ahead and add the 5 and 6 together.

11 + 8v + 6v

 

Now factor out a v from the last two terms.

11 + v(8 + 6)

 

11 + v(14)

 

11 + 14v
