Hi everyone,
The cost of a car is given by the following function
C(x) = 0.3 + 100
Where x is the amount of miles driven during the duration of the rental, and C(x) is the total cost to rent the car in dollars.
1. find vertical intercept and what it means int he context of the probleme
I actually find the interecept which is 100. However I have no idea how to explain what does it means in the context ?
2. How far could you drive the car if you have $350 to spend on the rental ?? Any idea how to resolve this car issue ?
Thank you so much for help !
Best,
Thalys
I think the function is
C(x) = 0.3x + 100
The 100 is the "fixed cost"....in other words.....it costs you $100 before you even drive the first mile.....!!!!!.....so, on the graph of the function, we would have the point (0. 100) = 0 miles driven = $100 cost
(2) Set the function = 350 and solve....so we have
350 = 0.3x + 100 subtract 100 from both sides
250 = 0.3x divide both sides by 0.3
x = about 833.33 miles.....this is how far you can drive for $350.......!!!!!
