If you calculate the volume of the cylinder using \({h}{\pi}{r}^{2}\), you need to use the height of 6cm (instead of 8cm) because each glass is being filled 2cm from the top, making the height 6cm. You get a volume of 169.646 cubic centimeters. (which is \(54\pi\)). There are 1000 cubic centimeters in one liter, so you can quickly convert this to 0.1696 liters. Then just divide 1.5 by that volume, and you'll get 8.844 glasses filled. Because we want to fill each glass completely, we just knock off those 0.844 glasses to make it fill an even 8 glasses.

i dont understand why u used 6 cm as the height? in fact the volume of the cylinder in (a)(i) was 226.2 not 169.646, so why don't we use the first volume?

It says to fill the glasses up to 2 cm from the top..... which is 6cm height       6/8 * 226.2 = 169.65
