There were some students in the school hall.

(a)   At first, the number of boys was 1/4 the number of girls.

       Then, 1/3 of the boys and 1/2 the girls went home. A total of 84 students went

       home. How many students were there in the school hall at first?

(b)  The number of students at first was 3/2 times the number of teachers.

      How many teachers were in the school hall?

b = 1/4 g

1/3 b   + 1/2 g = 84

1/3 (1/4 g )   + 1/2 g = 84

7/12 g = 84

g = 144     then   b  = 36          b + g = _______________

The number of students at first was 3/2 times the number of teachers.

      How many teachers were in the school hall?

 given, number of students at first

 = 3/2 times the number of teachers

=> number of teachers = 2/3 number of students

      = 2/3 * 180 = 2 * 60 = 120

So there were 120 teacher in the school hall
