THAT is an EXPRESSION....not anything I can do with that.

When you add an EQUAL sign it becomes an EQUAtion   (get it?)

3x+9 + y  =  7    is an EQUAtion WITH two variables  x and y.

to solve equations , you have to have an equation for each VARIABLE.....two equations, two variables......or you can SOLVE for ONE of the variables...but you cannot get a numerical value for the variable

example

solve 3x+9 + y =7      for 'y'    that means : Manipulate the given equation until you have y= on one side

3x+9+y=7    Subtract 3x from both sides of the equation (this still makes it EQUAL)

3x-3x +9 + y = 7-3x

9+y = 7 - 3x      (because...well 3x-3x is zero)

Now subtract  '9' from both sides

9 - 9 + y = 7-3x - 9

y=7-3x-9

y=-2-3x    and you have solved the equation  FOR 'y' in TERMS of 'x''.....

Can't  do much with what you have given us......got more info?
